PETER RUSSELL

Tutto è speso in distrazioni e lotterie, --

Sometimes I think that everything is lost
And all this labour just a waste of time.
The rich and famous get away with crime, -
I’ve spent my all on poetry at a cost
People consider crazed. A few, at most,
Imagine the demands of the Sublime,
And fewer still envisage in a rhyme
That Ecstasis Longinus diagnosed.

The non-stop Talk-Show of the Parliament
Turns hard-won culture to a spectacle,
Publicity and profit ruling all,
All on amusement and the Lottery spent, --
I’am sane” I boast, “And all the world’s a fool”, --
Eli was blind, but Samuel heard the call.
